What Are Prebiotics?

Prebiotics are non-digestible food components that selectively stimulate the growth and/or activity of beneficial gut bacteria. Unlike probiotics (live bacteria), prebiotics are the fuel that feeds your existing microbiome. Key prebiotic fiber types include inulin, fructooligosaccharides (FOS), galactooligosaccharides (GOS), resistant starch, pectin, beta-glucan, and arabinoxylan — each feeding different bacterial species.
